For the Undergraduate Major, the Department of History is organized into ten Fields, divided between two Categories as follows:

• Category I: Ancient, History of Science, Medieval, Modern Western Europe, United States
• Category II: Africa, East Asia, Latin America, Indigenous Nations/Native America, Russia/Eastern Europe

FRESHMAN-SOPHOMORE COURSES (numbered 100-299)
Maximum 6 Credit

JUNIOR-SENIOR LEVEL COURSES (numbered 300-699)
Minimum 24 Credits total

A. FIELD OF CONCENTRATION_________________Category___________
Minimum 4 courses, all 300-level or above

B. SECONDARY FIELD_____________________Category______________
2 courses in a single field outside Category of Field of Concentration in "A" above;
both courses 300-level or above.

C. REQUIRED UPPER-LEVEL RESEARCH SEMINARS

Note: History 696, Research Seminar, should be in Field of Concentration.
Note also: Senior Honors Thesis replaces History 696, where applicable.

OTHER: Two more courses on any level.
* One of these must be in a third field not represented by (A) Field of Concentration or (B) Secondary Field above.
* One of these must cover material predominately before 1800 and one after 1800.
* These requirements may be fulfilled by Freshman-Sophomore-Level course(s) above.
